As you all know, I’m more of a basketball fan than a fan of the NFL. But this Superbowl was one for the books. Peyton Manning, who I believe is one of the best quarterbacks of all time, was coming off a remarkable season with his Broncos beating out the competition by their electrifying offensive moves. This time they were faced with an enormous task to battle against the Seattle Seahawks, the best defensive team in the league, who we’re gunning for their first championship.
This superbowl, featured the best offense against the best defense! Similar to other sports, offense wins games but defense wins championships. That is why the Seattle Seahawks dismantled the Denver Broncos 43-8.
As much as I love the Lakers, something similar also happened last 2004. When the then unknown Detroit Pistons battled the star studded offensive powerhouse of the LA Lakers which featured Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone, and Gary Payton. The Pistons were a bunch of role players at that time with really no valid superstar. They just played shutdown defense and came out on top.
The same is true with our finances. Earning big or having a big offense can make you win games. This will give you a good head start on how you steer your money. But its your defense or how you save and uttilize your finances efficiently that will make your wealth over the long term. Being rich is not just by getting one offensive salvo like closing a big deal or getting promoted to a high position. You do not win the championship by winning all of your regular season games. But rather championships are won, when you slug it out and play good defense. What does good defense mean? In spite of you earning so much, keep a lock down on your spending. It’s the mentality that earning more does not equate to spending more. A strong defense is having the mentality of saving first, avoiding debt, and building a storehouse that will benefit not just you but also generations to come after you. That is what champions do! Champions leave legacies for the next generation! No one remembers those who wins the most games in the regular season but rather people remember those who bring home the championship!
You are a champion! And champions are winners. It’s time not just to have a great offense and earn a lot. But it’s also time to start building up your defense in terms of budgeting, saving, getting out of debt! I know you can do it! If God placed it in your heart to be financially free it is Him also who will open up opportunities for you to be free!
