Stock Update: AC buys 43.3 percent of Zalora

By: Marvin Germo | February 24, 2017

AC one of the largest conglomerates in the country now dabbles into the e-commerce space as it buys 43.3-percent of Zalora. Ayala Land is also part of the deal as they will own 1.91% of the company. For those who aren’t into online shopping, Zalora is the biggest online fashion retailer in the country.  They house over 1,000 specialty brands and around 120,000 products which can be bought, sold and delivered by just a click of a botton. I always get scared when my wife would login to their website!  To husbands, you know what I mean!

Here are the first events for the year!  I will give you an update on our live sessions on UAE and Qatar in the next few weeks! The heart of why I do this seminars is I want to build a generation of Filipinos with the right foundation in stock investing.  I want to bring smart investing to every Filipino around the world!  This is my passion and this is what I want to do over and over!  To bring more consumers to investors!  In this sessions, I will be teaching different techniques from how to select the right stocks up to how to find the perfect timing in buying and selling stocks.

Why such a move?

Ayala sees the global trend where online shopping is starting to grab a large piece of the market.  If you look at how Amazon is disrupting the market in the US and how it is actually taking a piece from Walmart’s earnings and growth. I think this is a good step for AC forward as it positions them ahead of the pack as local companies try to go head to head to capitalize on our consumption driven economy.

What does the stock charts say?

AC has been range bound since the start of 2017.  It has been moving from 779 to 835 in the first 7 weeks of the year.  The stock is currently up for three straight days now due to the bounce from 779.  If this progresses further the stock may continue and follow its range channel up to 835.  Should the stock fail to breakout of 835, for quick traders I would suggest that you take profits. However for position traders, watch out for 820.  Should AC breakout and stay above that price, the stock now turns from bearish to bullish and if accompanied with a breakout from 835 the stock could go to 866 – 877 over the short to mid term. However if it fails to do so, the stock could just retrace back to 779. Don’t just buy because of the news of this purchase, study the fundamentals more and use technicals to time your trades.  The best way to win in the market is if you use a combination of both technicals and fundamentals to win.  You can never go very far if you just base your trades on rumors, speculation or a tip from your good friend.  The time is now that you build the right foundation in stocks and you trade with a strategy and discipline that fits the risks that you are willing to take. I believe that the Philippines is bound for greater things.  You being profitable in the stock market will do so much for our country!
